Who are the top Oil and Gas Training Providers today?
PetroSkills, NExT (Schlumberger), IHRDC, JMCampbell, AAPG, SPE, SEG are the leaders and there are many, many more with specific areas of concentration.
No shortage of Oil & Gas Training providers out there. Heck, just do a search on Google for the term "oil and gas training" (safe to click, it just links to Google search results). That's way too much data to have to sift through don't you think?
So, where to turn?
Colleges do a pretty good job of putting on basic courses and on rare occasion you'll see something pop up. But, you have to be on your toes.
Almost all of the industry associations have training programs and many of them include classroom, field trips and hands on. Problem is, they're being cancelled all the time. Usually it's because there aren't enough people to get the classes past break even point. That's as much a problem of marketing as anything. You'll find some pretty esoteric training on occasion though. Things you'd rarely see the big training providers offer.
The commercial training providers do a marvelous job of providing training for the whole career path. These range from the fundamental course to the extremely advanced, cutting edge. Another benefit to the commercial providers... they'll come to YOU! With the front office ever mindful of cost reductions, spending money for employees to travel, house and eat on the company dime is a harder decision to make.
In-house training for the oil and gas industry makes a ton of sense and none of the associations or universities will touch that.
